RNLI supporters get ready for the Deeply Dip

by isleofman.com 27th January 2011

RNLI supporters are preparing for their annual Deeply Dip which takes place tomorrow (Friday).

Lifeboat stations across the Isle of Man are calling on residents to cheer on the 14 brave souls who will be braving the icy winter waters.

The event is run as part of the RNLI's SOS fundraising day.

Dippers from a host of businesses across the Island – including AXA, Merrill Lynch and Alliance and Leicester - will be taking part.

The Mayoress of Douglas Julie McNicholl is also joining in the fun.

RNLI community fundraising manager Adele Fuller is encouraging local businesses to support the event.

She said: "Taking part in Deeply Dippy is a big achievement and we're really grateful to all our dippers and 3FM for their support.

"Family, friends and RNLI supporters will be ready at each lifeboat station to encourage the 'dippers' to take the plunge at each destination so come along and join us.

"The RNLI is a charity and depends on public donations to carry on the crew's lifesaving work.

"Deeply Dippy and other fundraising events are a fun and exhilarating way to raise money and save lives at sea."

The Island has five lifeboat stations: Douglas, Peel, Port Erin, Port St Mary and Ramsey.

For more information on the Deeply Dippy event contact Steph Tiesteel at 3FM on 616333 or Adele Fuller on 07900 607252.
