SURE staff put a smile on plenty of people's faces earlier this week when they took part in Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Random Acts of Kindness Day (RAK) is celebrated at various times of the year in numerous countries across the world.
Businesses, community groups and schools come together to spread a little cheer by performing acts of kindness for friends, family and even complete strangers.
Sure has taken part in the event for three years running in order to brighten up the dark days of January.
On Monday Sure staff carried out several acts of kindness that included:
• Paying for people's bus fares for the Ramsey to Douglas Express Bus route in the morning
• Paying for people's parking near to the Sea Terminal, Douglas
• Buying coffee for Java customers
• Buying lunch for Jurgen and Pappagalis' customers
• Paying for taxi fare for five randomly chosen people in the Island
• Delivering muffins and pasties to the Douglas police stations
• Giving film-goers free popcorn at the Palace Cinema
Sure's marketing manager Rose Dahlan said: "It was a fantastic day, and I am delighted that so many people got involved.
"We started doing RAKs in 2009 and the more we did, the more we wanted to do, so having a whole day devoted to them was brilliant.
"The point of a RAK Day is to do something selflessly, just to assist or cheer someone up, without expecting anything in return. We really want to lift the community spirit on this day and spread some happiness throughout the Island."
Members of the public were particularly grateful when they showed up at Java on Monday morning only to find their coffee already paid for.
One local resident said: "It's a really good idea and inspires other people to do the same thing."
When the police were surprised with pastries and muffins, Inspector Phil Shimmin said: "A great big thanks – this is a huge surprise and a very welcome one."
Members of the public were also encouraged to carry out RAKs on Monday.
Reports came in from residents all over the Isle of Man, including someone who donated a wheelchair to a person having an operation and several bosses who bought cakes and other treats for their teams.
