Change of venue for blues festival

by isleofman.com 26th January 2011

This year’s Big Wheel Blues Festival may have as much blues as ever, but there will be little of the Big Wheel about it.

Organisers say the festival, traditionally held in Laxey, will move to Douglas for 2011.

The event is scheduled for the May Bank Holiday Weekend at the Villa Marina because the usual venue, the Pavilion Ballroom in Laxey Glen Gardens, is undergoing refurbishment.

And in a statement, the festival committee says profits made in 2011 will be donated to the Children's Centre.

This year’s lineup includes artists such as Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges, James Hunter, Martin Harley, Grainne Duffy, Dale Storr and Soul Suspects.

On the Saturday and Sunday afternoons, there will be family fun and activities in the Villa Marina Gardens, with stages for local bands and musicians.

Dave McLean of the festival committee says, despite the change of venue, this year's event is shaping up to be one of the best ever.

Tickets go on sale soon.
