Keys told about education savings

The number of teachers employed by the Department of Education and Children has been cut by four per cent.

Staffing levels at the Island's schools have dropped from 881 to 846, although it's being stressed most of the savings have been made by natural wastage and discharging those on temporary contracts.

In reply to a question from Onchan MHK Peter Karran, Minister for Education Eddie Teare told the House of Keys his department had been asked to save money, in line with all the departments of the Manx government.

He said savings had also been made in central services:
