Some public sector jobs, including teaching and nursing posts, have been done away with since the start of the current financial year, but the civil service has grown in size.
That's according to figures revealed by Chief Minister Tony Brown, in his reply to a written question in Tynwald from Rushen MHK Juan Watterson.
According to the figures, 49 public sector positions have been created since April 1, 2010.
Thirty of those jobs were in the civil service, in which six positions have been abolished in the same period.
In the manual workers category, twelve positions have been abolished and the same number created.
The section marked 'other' has seen the biggest cut in numbers, with 80 posts done away with and seven created.
Since April last year, 181 people have been recruited from within the public sector, with 275 taken on from elsewhere.
