Nomads keep Shield hopes alive

by isleofman.com 22nd January 2011

Reigning champions Southern Nomads kept their Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield hopes alive with a 19-6 win over Vagabonds B.

The title will now be decided by the outcome of the two sides’ postponed fixtures against Douglas B.

Two first half penalties from Michael Oates had Vagas ahead 6-0 but Nomads hit back with a try from Rob Keelan, converted by Jack Callaghan, to lead 7-6 at the break.

In the second half, Nomads put the pedal to the metal.

Keelan bagged his second of the day to make it 12-5 and former skipper Andy Lean sealed the game with a try converted by Steve McHugh.

There was a whiff of controversy at Poulsom Park when the match was abandoned with Castletown leading 25-17.

As more than an hour had been played, the result is likely to stand which will temporarily put Town on the top of the table.

Sam Peel, Jim Green and Billy Hanrahan all crossed for Town with Peel adding two conversions and two penalties.

Ramsey’s scores came courtesy of two penalty tries, plus a penalty and a conversion from Danny Bonwick.

The scheduled match between Emerging Nomads and Douglas B was postponed.
