Douglas Lift Bridge closed for maintenance work

by isleofman.com 23rd January 2011

DOUGLAS Lift Bridge will be closed today (Sunday) so that maintenance work can be carried out.

The bridge will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians between 7am and midnight while the Department of Infrastructure tends to the work.

This includes fixing a metal bracket at the joint between the lifting section of the bridge and the static section.

This will rectify the noticeable banging noise which is currently being experienced when vehicles drive over the bracket.

The vehicle barriers require maintenance work and some need replacing and patching work will also be carried out on the south side of the bridge where the surface is starting to fail.

The department said it has recognised that the whole of the southern approach needs to be re-surfaced but said it will not be possible during these works to do it.

Should the scheduled works not be completed the bridge will be closed again on Sunday, January 30.

The department has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
