Horse centre of attention at church service

by isleofman.com 23rd January 2011

A HORSE owned by an Island MLC was the centre of attention at Kirk Maughold's Plough Sunday celebrations.

Local farmers mingled with the congregation at the event which marks the traditional start of the new farming year.

Magnum, a working Clydesdale gelding, is owned by Clare Christian and turned up at the celebration decked out in his ploughing year.

The tradition of blessing a local plough inside the church was carried on from last year's celebration and there was also a competition for the most unusual way of getting to the service.

Acting priest in charge Reverend Ian Faulds said that Plough Sunday helped to realise that despite what we may think we are not masters of environment.
