Winter - time to plan your garden landscaping

WHEN the weather is freezing cold and there’s snow and ice everywhere and the ground is rock hard, such as this winter, it’s not exactly when you might think of landscaping, garden design and ground works.

But, strange as it may seem, the winter is precisely the time when architects, planners and construction companies are making their plans for the warmer spring and summer months when they can get started on new projects all over the Isle of Man.

In practical terms, the winter is definitely the quietest time of the year because the ground can be frozen solid and snow can hamper all projects - as has happened during November and December. But it’s certainly the time for looking forward to the future.

“We are currently organising a number of new projects for 2011 ranging from small gardens to large commercial contracts,” said Brian McManus, owner of Quest Landscape Services.

“The important decisions are made in the planning. We provide a landscape design service whether it’s a small town garden or a large country estate, a new garden or one in need of attention.

“Every project provides different challenges with each garden and makeover being different, as is every client’s needs, we embrace the challenging task and have the skill and creative flair to understand the potential in a site.

“At Quest, from concept to completion we are with you every step of your landscape project to help you realise your perfect outdoor space.”

The company’s track record in the Isle of Man is nothing short of impressive. All over the Island there are examples of the craftsmanship of Quest Landscapes, for both private and commercial clients. The company has an extensive range of the latest machinery and equipment to hand - and the staff with the experience to produce the highest quality results.

Two of the highest profile projects are the ground works and landscaping which have transformed the gardens at the Villa Marina and the striking memorial garden for the late great Steve Hislop overlooking Douglas Bay from Harbour Road.

Quest was formed in 1997 with the aim of providing high quality workmanship, a first class reliable service and competitive pricing. All three aims were achieved - and surpassed - to the point where Quest is now one of the highest profile landscaping companies on the Island which has diversified and expanded into many different areas.

Today, Quest offers an extensive range of services - ground works, landscape design, turf and lawns, water features, paving, planting, decking, timber features and landscape maintenance are just a few. The company is also now recognised for its expertise in renewable energy and is one of very few businesses which can install ground and air source heat pumps - one of the fastest-growing new technologies around.

A recent government-commissioned survey shows that some of the previously accepted renewable energy systems are not yet sophisticated enough to provide economical heat and energy. Quest is staying fully in touch with the latest developments in the industry and understands that the technology is still evolving and new ideas are in the pipeline.

“The construction industry is changing and evolving all the time,” said Brian McManus. “Building regulations are also changing at the same time, to ensure that the highest standards are maintained. We intend to meet the highest standards and to exceed them wherever possible.”

Experience is the backbone of the company. All the Quest staff are highly trained and qualified who take their jobs seriously with a desire to leave a lasting testimony to their standards of skill and design.

From a simple garden path to the creation of a lake, Quest takes every project professionally and responsibly to produce top notch results. “Our name - and our reputation - goes with every single project,” said Brian McManus. “We get business in all sorts of ways, and a lot of it on the Isle of Man is through word of mouth and reputation. We know the job has to be done to the highest standards - our name is on it.”
