Minister unrepentant over 'hostile UK' remarks

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne has defended his comments about the United Kingdom, made at a nationalist commemoration a fortnight ago.

At the Illiam Dhone ceremony in Castletown, he told the crowd it was time for the Isle of Man to look elsewhere for friends, because the UK was becoming more hostile.

Yesterday (Tuesday) in Tynwald, Chief Minister Tony Brown faced questions from Michael MHK David Cannan about whether the remarks put the Island's economy at risk.

Mr Brown backed his minister, and afterwards Mr Gawne said he was unrepentant:
