Advocate questioned at trial of former colleague

by isleofman.com 18th January 2011

The principal of an Isle of Man legal firm has strongly refuted a claim she didn't offer enough support to an advocate now charged with money laundering offences.

Louise Byrne, the principal of Moroney's, today (Tuesday) spent two and a half hours giving evidence at the trial of Jenny Holt.

Thirty-year-old Miss Holt of Union Mills, formerly of Moroney's, is accused of entering into an agreement knowing stolen money was being used, and falsifying or concealing documents.

She was charged following the money laundering trial of former business tycoon Trevor Baines, and his wife Wendy, in the autumn of 2009, during which she was part of their defence team.

They were subsequently convicted.
