MORE than 50 teenagers have auditioned for a part in a production of the smash hit teen musical Camp Rock.
The teenagers attended a day long audition on Sunday at the Douglas Youth Arts Centre which was open to singers, dancers and actors over the age of 13.
Camp Rock is a Disney Channel movie which tells the story of a shy but aspiring young musician who struggles to be able to attend a rock music camp. Once there she wins the heart of a pop star with her beautiful voice.
The film and its sequel Camp Rock 2 have a huge teenage following and the stage musical is based on both films.
Fiona Helleur, head of youth arts, said: "The talent and skills I saw in the Youth Arts Centre were of an incredibly high standard and it will be terribly hard to select who is going to play what part.
"This is a show that will really bring out the best in all the participating young people as it includes everything from hip-hop and rap to ballads and indie style music.
"It is a non-stop dance show with very little time between high energy numbers that switch styles, frequently and often, so the cast will have to be on the ball.
"As a production team we are very excited by this project and are looking forwards to seeing it take shape."
Set and scenery building workshops will start soon and young people will also be given the chance to get involved in the sound and lighting aspects of the production.
The performance is scheduled to take place at Easter.
