POLICE from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Island have confirmed that Doctor Damian Smith from the Peel Group Practice was arrested last week.

It was announced yesterday (Monday) that Doctor Smith was no longer a partner within the practice with immediate effect.

Police have revealed that Doctor Smith was arrested on Friday, January 14, and bailed without charge while investigations continue.

Detective Sergeant Cathryn Bradley said: "Information was brought to police that has resulted in an investigation into a Doctor.

"The investigation does not relate to the Doctor’s medical competence to practice nor does it relate to any of his patients or staff.

"Once enquiries are completed a file will be submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers for a decision to be made."

Peel Group Practice has apologised to patients for any inconvenience caused and has reassured patients that they can be seen by any other doctor at the practice.
