Now you've set your health and fitness goals it's important to keep on track.

You already know how to lose weight – at it's simplest you need to burn more calories than you eat right?

Exercising and healthy eating is the healthiest way to do that but successful weight loss doesn't start with your body - it starts with your mind.

So how do you get in the right frame of mind?

Commitment
You already know you have to commit to being healthy but what does that actually involve? Being committed means you have to wake up every day and decide you're going to make healthy choices. Being committed is a choice and something you have to re-inforce each day.

So how do you do that?

Plan and prepare

Make it as easy as possible to follow through with your plans. The night before get your gym bag and clothes ready and decide what and when you'll eat and get your meals ready. Pack some healthy snacks to avoid getting so hungry you'll literally eat anything.

Motivate yourself
Remind yourself throughout the day of the benefits you will feel and see if you keep on track. Once you see results this will help you motivate yourself even more.

Hold yourself accountable

What will happen if you skip that workout or reach for that cream cake? Remember why you started this healthier lifestyle. Although do allow yourself a day where you can treat yourself - call it a reward.

Remember your goals
Remember what your goals are each day. Weight loss? More energy? To tone up? Whatever it is exercise is an important step in reaching it. Remind yourself of the big picture - what you do today and everyday counts in the long term.

Exercise tip of the week

Performing weight-bearing exercises as part of your training programme is essential to gaining muscular strength and boosting your metabolism. You'll be training your whole body to burn more fat without even thinking about it. The more muscle you have the faster your metabolism will be. You'll burn calories in your sleep!

Keep up the good work!
