More funds needed for first-time buyers

Almost ?3 million of extra funding will be sought by the Department of Social Care at next week's Tynwald sitting.

It's to cover the financial assistance given to over 120 first-time buyers the department expects to have helped by the end of the tax year on March 31.

The ?2.8 million figure is nearly one-and-a-half times on top of what the department had approved for the House Purchase Assistance Scheme in last year's budget.

Social Care Minister Martyn Quayle says the money is needed because a number of developments have been completed earlier than expected:
