Island keeps an eye on UK compensation change

The Isle of Man would have to consult with the finance sector before making any changes to its Depositors' Compensation Scheme.

So says Economic Development Minister Allan Bell, after the United Kingdom announced it was increasing its compensation limit to ?85,000.

The schemes are designed to reimburse savers when banks fail, and the Manx one currently has an upper limit of ?50,000.

But Mr Bell doesn't believe the lower figure seriously disadvantages the Island when it comes to competing for business:
