THE female occupant of a house in Douglas was taken to hospital after a chip pan caught fire in the property.

Two fire appliances from Douglas were called to the house in Springfield Avenue, Douglas, at 2.41pm on Tuesday.

On arrival two firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the property and spent just over ten minutes extinguishing the fire.

The female was given first aid at the scene and was then transferred to the hospital by ambulance for observation and treatment. She was released later the same day.

Firefighters remained at the scene for 40 minutes removing damaged items and venting the premises.

In the event of a chip pan fire residents are advised to turn the heat off, if it is safe to do so, never throw water on the appliance and to get out and call 999.
