Lighting strategy ready to go

Douglas Borough Council hopes a ?5.25 million town centre regeneration scheme will begin in April.

The first of five areas of improvement involves lighting, with work scheduled to start in Nelson Street, and take in the main shopping area early next year.

The council has committed ?2 million to the overall sum, and is hoping the remainder will be allocated from the government's regeneration fund.

Works Committee chairman David Ashford says the strategy includes high-tech LED street lighting, with changing colours, and floodlighting outstanding structures:
