MODIFICATIONS have been made to a plan which looks at opportunities for development in the south of the Island.
The Department of Infrastructure has altered the Draft Area Plan which looks at significant opportunities for new housing, employment and other development in the south.
The plan was originally published in October 2009 and has attracted comments from over 150 local residents, landowners and special interest groups as well as local authorities and various arms of government.
Comments included objections to the proposals in the plan, expressions of support and suggestions for how the plan could be improved.
After considering the comments the department refined some of the development briefs including those for the land at Ballakilley in Port Erin, Ballcubbon in Colby and Crossag Farm in Ballasalla.
It has also confirmed that the line of the Ballasalla bypass should be protected and has prepared new maps which are easier to understand.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK said: "I am delighted to be associated with this latest stage of the plan for the south of the Island.
"The overall process is lengthy but by including regular consultation, and opportunities for amendment, is more likely to result in a plan which incorporates the ideas and aspirations of the local community.
"I would therefore urge all those who are interested in the development or protection of this part of the Island to take the time to study the modified plan and submit their comments to the department."
The next stage in the process will be a public enquiry which is likely to be held in July.
