Douglas councillors are being urged to show restraint in their budget for the forthcoming financial year, which will be presented to the council for approval at a special meeting later this month.
A year ago there was no increase in the town's rate, in recognition of the difficulties the whole Island was facing following the renegotiation of the VAT agreement with the United Kingdom.
Leader of the council David Christian says the 2011/12 budget needs to reflect the continuing tough economic times, with the council looking at reducting its workforce:
The monthly meeting of the borough council is this afternoon (Wednesday), and the special meeting for setting the rate is on Wednesday, January 26, at 10.30am.
