Kerbside collection to continue until March 2012

by isleofman.com 11th January 2011

THE kerbside collection of rubbish for recycling will now continue until the end of March 2012.

The government-funded three-year scheme, operated by Douglas Borough Council in partnership with Onchan Commissioners and Braddan Commissioners, was due to end on September 30 this year.

However an agreement has been reached to extend the service, with each of the local authorities contributing a proportion of the operating costs.

Chairman of Douglas Borough Council's public works committee councillor David Ashford said: "Braddan and Onchan have been most receptive to the council's proposals for extending the scheme which, for Douglas, will cost £85,000 to run until March 31 next year.

"This extension will provide an opportunity for all parties to investigate whether the scheme can be operated and financed in the future in a way that will represent value for money for the ratepayers of Douglas, Braddan and Onchan."

New calendars detailing collection dates for the kerbside recycling service are now available from the waste management section of Douglas Borough Council, ring 696450.
