Further court action planned by families of crew

by isleofman.com 11th January 2011

Eleven years to the day since the Solway Harvester sank off the east coast of the Isle of Man, with the loss of all seven crew, relatives of the fishermen who died are preparing for fresh court action.

Although no one was blamed for the tragedy when the inquest concluded in 2008, it was ruled the vessel was 'not properly maintained'.

With no compensation payments yet made, the families are again preparing to go to court, if a settlement can't be reached with the former owner of the vessel.

The Island's director of harbours, Captain Mike Brew, says the rusting wreckage can't be disposed of while civil proceedings are still pending, and must remain moored in Douglas:
