MANX National Heritage is inviting expressions of interest for consultants to undertake audience development planning.
Director of Manx National Heritage Edmund Southworth said audience development planning is something that is particularly used in the museum and cultural sector.
It will look into who currently uses Manx National Heritage sites - and who doesn't.
It may involve a survey of visitors from key areas off the Island to see if people are using Manx National Heritage sites while they are here and it could look at how to attract certain audiences to the sites.
Mr Southworth said it is a sophisticated process which could examine a whole range of issues.
He explained: "We want to spend a lot of time and energy over the next five years upgrading our facilities and we want to do it sensibly and provide money where it will do the most good."
He said the process is also "about making our marketing money go further, by being more targeted and more precise".
Mr Southworth said a five figure sum would be spent on the research and the deadline for expressing interest is January 21.
Manx National Heritage is also seeking expressions of interest from consultants or organisations interested in developing a "lifestyle magazine".
Mr Southworth said: "We put out of a lot of print material and I wonder whether it will make more sense to put it in a single publication which would reduce our costs."
He said plans for the magazine are in the early stages. The deadline for expressions of interest is January 31.
Meanwhile TT fans have another exciting Manx National Heritage exhibition to look forward to - the House of Manannan in Peel is to house an exhibition looking back at 100 years of the Mountain Course later this year.
This year marks the centenary of the Mountain Course being used for the annual motorcycle road races.
