by isleofman.com 10th January 2011

NICK Harper - who has been described as "one of the finest guitarists of his generation" by Mojo Magazine - will make his Isle of Man debut at the end of this month.

He will be appearing at the Promenade Suite at the Villa Marina, Douglas, on Saturday, January 29.

There will be local support from The Twigs and doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm.

Nick, who is the son of legendary guitarist Roy Harper, is described as being at the forefront of a new generation of British acoustic performers.

Mojo magazine, in addition to praising his guitar playing, added: "His soaring vocal range and propensity for epic song place him somewhere between Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley."

The Glasgow Herald said: "If you've never seen [Harper] live, you're missing out on one of the musical phenomenons of our age."

In addition to the gig Nick will be giving a guitar and songwriting workshop the night before (January 28) at Peter Norris Music, Finch Road, Douglas, starting at 7.30pm. To buy tickets for the workshop, priced £10, see www.etickets.im/jp

Tickets for the gig are £17.50 (with a range of concessions available) and are available from the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, Douglas, the ticket hotline by ringing 600555 and online at www.villagaiety.com

Nick is being brought over by JonnoPromotions and the events are being supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.
