Councillor told to address damp problem

A member of Douglas Borough Council is again facing the possibility of court action, over the state of her home.

In March last year, the council dropped charges against Helen Callow, acknowledging in court that work had been carried out on her house to restore it from a dilapidated state.

Ten months later, a Nuisance Abatement Order has been issued against her by the government's Office of Environmental Health, following a complaint of penetrating damp from the owner of the adjoining property, in Selborne Drive.

Chairman of the Public Health and Housing Committee Colin Cain says it's a serious matter, which could go to court if the order is ignored:
