All-Island taxi service on the way?

All-Island licensing for ply-for-hire taxis would be welcome.

That appears to be the message following a consultation held by the Department of Infrastructure.

The department received around 100 written responses, of which 45 were in favour and 31 against the proposal. In an online survey, 264 out of 296 responses approved the move.

Overall, around 78 per cent of those who responded were in favour of all-Island trade.

Minister Phil Gawne says it's already known that Tynwald wants an all-Island taxi service, and it now appears a majority of the population is in favour as well.

He hopes action can be taken soon:
