Extension for kerbside collection scheme

Douglas Borough Council is praising Onchan and Braddan commissioners for their cooperation in extending the kerbside collection scheme, for a further six months.

The government funded three-year trial will finish on September 30, but the three local authorities have agreed to take over the operation until the end of the forthcoming financial year, when a decision will be taken on its future.

The cost of the extension to the borough council will be ?85,000 and chairman of the Public Works Committee David Ashford says it will have to be decided whether such expenditure is justified in the current economic climate:
