DO . . .
- use probiotics before you travel to boost your immune system
- drink water from bottles with a sealed lid (if the seal is broken then who knows where it came from)
- use wipes to clean your hands before eating, rather than washing in water which might not be 100% safe
- peel all fruit - and avoid raw tomatoes unless you plan to peel them too
- take care eating local cheeses and ice cream and boil unpasteurised milk.
- cook all meat thoroughly and eat it while it’s still hot
- take rehydration salts with you, such as Dioralyte. Diluted in bottled water, it will replenish lost salts if you’re ill. Flat cola is also useful for this.
DON’T . . .
- drink tap water unless you’re 100% sure it’s safe to drink
- avoid ice cubes made from tap water and where possible use bottled water for washing your teeth
- eat any food that’s been exposed to flies and insects (i.e. food displayed outdoors in unprotected displays)
- eat seafood unless you know it’s 100% safe. Local advice is essential. Seafood causes lots of food poisoning on holiday in foreign countries.
