A 55 year-old Jurby man has been jailed for his involvement in the importation of ?1 million worth of anabolic steroids.

Colin Richard Lathbury, of Ballachrink Farmhouse, Jurby East, was sent to prison for two years after admitting conspiracy to supply Class C drugs.

He was one of three people sent to prison for their part in the dealings.

The investigation which led to Lathbury’s arrest was run in parallel with an inquiry into the disappearance of 41-year-old Derbyshire businessman Paul Duckenfield in September 2008.

Although Mr Duckenfield's body has not been found, police believe he was murdered and the inquiry is linked to his involvement in the supply of anabolic steroids used by athletes and body builders.

Along with Lathbury, an Essex man and his estranged wife were also jailed for four and a half and two years respectively at Essex Crown Court.

Patrick Hyland pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply Class C drugs, while Hyacinth Hyland was found guilty of the same offence, perverting the course of justice and money laundering.
