by isleofman.com 5th January 2011

MANX residents felt an earth tremor in December after a small earthquake in Cumbria.

On December 21, a magnitude 3.6 earthquake happened in Cumbria which was felt in Lancashire and the Isle of Man.

Members of the social networking site Facebook said the tremor was felt in Douglas, Braddan, Onchan, Laxey and Ramsey in the Isle of Man.

An emergency services spokesman said: "You may have heard of a reported earthquake in the Cumbria area, I can confirm that a very small number of calls have been received at the Emergency Services' Joint Control Room from persons who have felt the effects in the Laxey/Ramsey/Peel/Onchan areas.

"I can reassure the public that no damage has been reported and certainly no injuries in the Isle of Man.

"We have checked with all our utility organisations and there are no reported problems being experienced as a result of the tremor."
