Nov 2010: New chief secretary appointed

WILL Greenhow was announced as the Island's new chief secretary in November.

 

He has taken over the role this month (January 2011) from Mary Williams, who has retired.

 

Mrs Williams had been in the post since November 2002 and had notched up more than 40 years public service.

 

Mr Greenhow is a professionally qualified Chartered Management Accountant with 28 years public sector experience gained in both the Isle of Man and UK Governments. 

 

After moving to the Island in 1999 he was appointed as the director of finance and research at the Department of Home Affairs. He was also the project sponsor for the commissioning of the Emergency Services Joint Control Room and the construction of the Island's new prison.

 

He was appointed to the role of chief executive of the Department of Home Affairs in 2003.

  

Prior to moving to the Island Will was a civil servant in the Ministry of Defence during which time he qualified as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

 

He started his career in 1982 at RAF Carlisle, moved to RAF Brampton in Huntingdon, and then worked for the MOD in Whitehall.
