Hunt the Wren takes place throughout Island

An old Manx tradition continued this morning.

"Hunt the Wren" has a long history, but its exact origins are somewhat lost in the mists of time.

Whilst in days gone by real birds were hunted and killed - with their feathers being distributed for good luck - today the wren can rest happy as the singing and dancing will be around a wren pole which contains an imitation bird, or even a plastic robin off the Christmas cake.

Manx broadcaster Bob Carswell says despite what some may think the tradition isn't unique to the Island:
