Traditional event in southern village

by isleofman.com 24th December 2010

There's an open invitation to take part in the annual Hunt the Wren in Port St Mary on Boxing Day.

The meeting place is the golf pavilion at 10am, where a competition for the best pole will be judged.

The traditional St Stephen's Day dance will then be explained to people who haven't done it before, after which participants will proceed through the village, arriving at the Albert Hotel by around midday.

There will then be a traditional Manx music session in the pub, to which everyone is invited.

Organiser and local MHK Quintin Gill says the Hunt the Wren has become a very popular event in Port St Mary and is a great way to get some fresh air, learn a bit about Manx culture and generally have a good time.

There are prizes for the three best wren poles, which will be judged by Dr Breesha Maddrell.
