Hundreds brave the sub zero weather for Ramsey's Christmas lantern parade

by isleofman.com 23rd December 2010

HUNDREDS of people braved the sub-zero conditions to see the Ramsey Christmas lantern parade through the town’s streets last night, led by Santa Claus and his helpers.

Postponed from the weekend because of the snow, the families of Ramsey and the north were determined not to let the weather beat them and the re-arranged event was well supported.

A spokesman for the event said the turnout of lanterns was slightly down on previous years but it wasn’t unexpected, considering the severity of the cold weather in the last fortnight.

“It’s still a great event and it’s wonderful to see how much time and effort has been spent in making the lanterns. We all had a great night.”

The parade started on Ramsey quayside before travelling up Parliament Street, through to St Paul’s Square and then gathering in front of the Nativity scene outside the police station for carol singing.
