Development can be sympathetic to environment

Ramsey MHK Allan Bell says the rescinding of the area of special scientific interest will be good for the future of the town.

Ramsey estuary was designated an ASSI earlier this year, after which a public consultation was carried out, giving Environment Minister John Shimmin two months to confirm, vary or rescind the status.

He dropped the idea earlier this week, suggesting the consultation process had been flawed.

Mr Bell says he understands it was a difficult decision, but he believes any future development in the town can be sympathetic to the environment:
