Chairman gives 'no more complacency' assurance

Steam Packet chairman Robert Quayle says everything possible will be done to avoid a repeat of the gangway collapse at Heysham in March.

A report by the United Kingdom's Marine Accident Investigation Branch has highlighted, among other things, a lack of communication between members of the Ben-my-Chree's crew.

This, along with certain company operational procedures not being followed, led to the starboard engine and propellors being engaged at the same time, causing the vessel to lurch forward and the gangway to break.

Mr Quayle says new procedures have been introduced, and the company will be working hard to ensure there is no complacency in the future:
