A CHRISTMAS message for isleofman.com readers from the chief executive of Crossroads Caring for Carers Jackie Betteridge:
"This year writing our thank you cards has taken longer than usual. The list of names stretches back over a year that has seen Crossroads Caring for Carers Isle of Man provide local carers with 1000 hours of respite every week.
"Each name on the list is someone who, through a small act of charity, has helped a carer, their family and the person they care for.
"I imagine their giving as a silver thread reaching out from the giver to our organisation before stretching back out into the community connecting them to the family that Crossroads supported with their donation.
"I often wonder if they realise what a difference they made by agreeing to be marooned in the middle of Mooragh Park, by giving up some time to help at Crossroads' annual Young Carers Festival, by drinking coffee at a coffee morning or by simply popping their change in a collection box.
"Christmas is a time for communities, for giving and for connecting with people but at Crossroads I believe this happens all year round.
"I cannot write cards to every person who supported us but I hope they read this Christmas message and understand that they are part of a generous caring community.
"Please continue to show you care all year round because, in the words of Norman Wesley Brooks:
Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself...
