by isleofman.com 27th December 2010

DOUGLAS East MHK Phil Braidwood was elected to the Legislative Council in the March elections.

He got through with 20 votes out of a possible 24 and was the only person to be elected in the first round of voting.

Seven candidates were trying to fill four places on the Legislative Council to serve a five year term.

The newly elected members were sworn in at a ceremony held in Douglas before the Tynwald sitting.

This was the first time that Mr Braidwood had been elected to the upper chamber and was joined by Dudley Butt and Alex Downie who retained their seats.

Kevin Woodford withdrew from the running after receiving only three votes.
