Open day showcases restoration work

by isleofman.com 18th December 2010

Members of the public have a chance to see how work is progressing on the restoration of the Laxey Working Men's Institute today (Saturday).

A festive open day is taking place at the building on New Road, between 10am and 1pm.

A group of volunteers has been working for the last four years to restore the building, so it can once again host a wide range of events at the heart of the local community.

The institute was used by the people of Laxey for many years, before it fell into disrepair.

Those calling in will be treated to mince pies, hot food and hot drinks, and carols from Manx Youth Brass and Manx Concert Brass.
