Frustrating conditions for motorists

Heavy snow and ice has been causing all sorts of problems for motorists, in many parts of the Island.

Barrack Street and Church Street in Douglas have been closed, along with Mona Street and Christian Road.

Two-way traffic was restored between Anagh Coar traffic lights and Spring Valley, but police were advising people to use the Kewaigue Road becuase of heavy traffic.

The road between Douglas Road Corner, Kirk Michael and Ballacraine Corner has been closed, as have Prospect Hill, Quarterbridge Road, Railway Hill and Mount Havelock in Douglas.

Traffic has been very heavy and slow moving throughout the capital, in particular Circular Road and Peel Road, as well as Woodbourne Road and Bucks Road.

In the west, the Tynwald Mills area of St John's and the Poortown Road were described as 'bad', as were the Old Castletown Road at Crogga in Santon, and the St Mark's Road.

The road from the Whitestone Roundabout in Ballasalla through to Cooil Road was effectively closed, except for access.

Summerhill in Onchan reopened after an earlier accident was cleared, and gritters salted the road surface.

The Eastern and Western Civic Amenity sites were closed today, and this evening's swimming lessons at the NSC and the Palace Hotel are cancelled.
