Help for people stranded in capital

by isleofman.com 17th December 2010

The Island's civil defence volunteers are advising people who are having trouble getting out of Douglas to head for the Sea Terminal.

They have set up an operations post there, which will try to get people home if they are stranded.

It follows the cancellation of some bus services and the fact a number of roads have been declared impassable.

Officials say they want to hear from any drivers of four-wheel drive vehicles who can help out and people who could answer phones during busy periods.

Earlier today (Friday), this bus passenger said he had been struggling to get out of the capital for hours (play audio file):

The number to ring if you can help the Civil Defence volunteers is 619425.
