Police are warning motorists to take extra care on the Island’s roads this evening (Thursday) as the snow starts to fall.
The Department of Infrastructure says gritters are out on the roads in preparation for heavier snowfalls expected overnight and tomorrow.
Police say people should drive with extra caution as rush hour approaches, as many routes may be very slippery and visibility poor.
The latest forecast from the Met Office (5pm) says snow showers will develop overnight, initially in the south of the Island, then spread to all parts during the day.
There will be significant accumulations and drifting in the very strong northwesterly winds.
The advice from police is to stay in and only make essential journeys.
