by isleofman.com 25th December 2010

RESIDENTS in the Island and the Manx Government donated generously to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal in January.

The Isle of Man Overseas Aid Committee responded to the urgent appeal from the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) by making a £60,000 donation.

George Waft MLC, chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee, said: "The committee is glad to be able to support the work of the DEC and its member agencies in providing the earthquake survivors with all the humanitarian assistance that they so desperately need."

The Island's branch of Oxfam, Christian Aid, Rotary Club of Onchan, and a number of Island schools all raised money to send towards the aid appeal.

The money went towards shelter, water, food and medical care.
