by isleofman.com 29th December 2010

MORE than 400 Royal British Legion members attended the Royal British Legion conference which was held in the Island in May.

The two day conference was held at the Villa Marina and saw members take part in the National Standard Bearers contest and a number of business sessions.

During the conference the Island's poppy appeal coordinator Audrey Brown was presented with the Poppy Appeal Trophy. The trophy is awarded every year to the county which raises the largest amount of money per head of the population.

Ian Cannell, Royal British Legion Isle of Man county president, said: "It all went very well. We were delighted. Most importantly the delegates seemed very happy with the venue and their accommodation. The weather was so superb several guests stayed on for an extra few days."

The conference was last held in the Island in 1984.
