May 2010: First easyJet flight to depart the Island is forced to return

by isleofman.com 29th December 2010

THE first ever easyJet flight to depart from the Isle of Man was forced to return shortly after it departed on May 21.

The airbus was recalled after a firefighter spotted a loose hatch door when the plane took off.

In fact it turned out to be the cover of a vent which would close automatically as the plane takes off and the cabin is pressurised.

After a 40 minute delay the plane took off again.

Airport duty officer Richard Mylchreest said: "The easyJet flight was recalled as a result of ground staff being unfamiliar with this type of aircraft but the captain complimented the ground staff for being so observant."
