Deputy PM defends tuition fees rise

The UK’s deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has been defending proposed changes to higher education funding as he meets Irish counterparts in Douglas.

This morning (Monday), he was taking part in the British Irish Council meeting but spoke to the press before the summit began.

After weeks of student unrest in the UK over plans to drastically raise fees for undergraduates, he stood by the coalition government’s policy.

Mr Clegg says it’s important to read the detail of the plans.
