The Isle of Man has made an appearance in documents published by the Wikileaks website.
According to leaked US diplomatic dispatches released by the site, British tycoon Robert Kissin acted as the middle man in one of America's worst recent corruption scandals.
Large bribes were allegedly handed over in the ex-Soviet state of Kazakhstan, with Kissin handling a $4m secret payment.
The documents say the cash was moved through a Barclays bank account set up in London on behalf of an offshore shell company registered in the Isle of Man.
Texas oil services company Baker Hughes has subsequently admitted the money was designed to help make corrupt payments to Kazakh state oil chiefs in return for a lucrative $219m contract.
Kissin has told the Guardian newspaper: 'I was employed by Baker Hughes. I was involved, but that's it – it's an old story. There are a number of inaccuracies in this account but I'm not going to go into it.'
