Wind Orchestra mark 10 years of busking with more performances

by isleofman.com 11th December 2010

THE Isle of Man Wind Orchestra will be busking in Douglas this weekend to raise money to help cover the orchestra's annual costs.

This will be the tenth year that the orchestra has busked in the town centre over the Christmas period.

Chairman Michael Morrison said: "We are very pleased to be offered the space outside the empty Woolworth’s store this year by Douglas Development Partnership.

"We usually have a selection of around 15 members playing wind and brass instruments so we need a fairly large area."

Orchestra members are encouraging shoppers to donate money as they play which will go towards putting on community concerts around the Island, buying new music, and hiring a rehearsal venue.

The Isle of Man Wind Orchestra will be busking on Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12, from 2pm. They will also perform on Thursday, December 23, for the late night shopping evening. All sessions are weather dependent.
