FIREFIGHTERS wearing breathing apparatus tackled a garage fire in Erin Way, Port Erin, shortly after 9am today (Thursday).
Upon their arrival crews from Port Erin were confronted with large amounts of smoke issuing from the garage door and from beneath the roof tiles.
Station Officer Graham Quayle said the fire involved the mains electrical intake mounted within an external supply box and the electrical consumer unit and wiring within the garage.
It had also started to spread to the roof void above the garage.
Firefighters initially attacked the fire with dry powder and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers until the electrical supply could be isolated by the Manx Electricity Authority.
Hot spots and glowing embers were then extinguished with water from a high pressure hose reel.
The sole occupier had escaped from the property prior to the fire service's arrival and was uninjured.
