Games On but Funding Needed Now

by isleofman.com 9th December 2010

The Chairman of the Isle of Wight Island Games Organising Committee is reassuring people next year's gathering will take place.

David Ball says a BBC South television report claiming the competition was in danger of being cancelled, due to a lack of funds, "exaggerated" the situation.

The Isle of Wight Council is having to make ?25 million worth of spending cuts over the next two years.

However, it is holding a further ?350,000 for organisers to stage the Games - a local government spokesman told the BBC they needed assurances the event would take place before funds would be made available.

David Ball admits to being startled by that claim:-
